Article Body
Weddings can be fun, but coming up with an idea on what to wear can be a little stressful. For men, wedding waistcoats are always there just as dresses are there for women. But deciding which one is a totally different story. Here are some basic guidelines on what to wear for a wedding:
Morning/Afternoon Wedding
During summertime, choose clothes that are light-colored and a little bit more casual than evening wedding attires. For women, a colorful floral dress, a skirt with a sweater paired with sling-back shoes, or a suit in a light color would be some of the choices. Top it off with a matching hat, and the attire is perfect. Men on the other hand can wear a nice coat or suit, a pair of slacks and a tie. For winter weddings, men can choose to wear a wool suit or a navy blazer paired with charcoal pants and probably a sweater and a tie too underneath the blazer or suit. It is also acceptable to wear a dress shirt with a tie and dress pants, but a blazer should be worn on top of them. Dark suits can be worn too, but not a tuxedo, if the invitation calls for a formal attire.
Evening Wedding
For evening weddings, women can dress in something that they would wear for dinner out in a nice restaurant. Dark-colored cocktail dresses that are comfortable for dancing but not too sexy, like a cocktail or a dressy suit are some of the choices. Elaborate jewelries can be worn but avoid sequins and beads, unless it was a black-tie event. Meanwhile, a dark suit for men is always appropriate. Wear a blazer with a pair of slacks and a nice tie, if the invitation says casual or semi-formal.
Casual Attire
It is not common to see casual attire noted in the invitation, but, sometimes the hosts would mention it if they prefer their guests not to dress-up too much. This is usually the case for weddings held in beaches or in parks and for second weddings. So heels and double-breasted suits might be better left at home. But jeans and tennis shoes are still not appropriate either. Women can wear a dress, skirt or even a suit paired with flat shoes. While men can put on a dress shirt, a nice pair of slacks, and a tie, or even without one.
Cocktail Attire
Cocktail attires are a little similar to evening wedding attires except that the former have a bit more sophistication in them. These dresses are more elegant and chic instead of sweet and pretty. Women should choose a dress that they would wear if they were going out to have dinner at a fancy restaurant. Men, on the other hand, should wear clothes that would make them look very splendid, but not tuxedos, which are inappropriate.
Black-tie Optional
Black-tie optional, in most cases, is a well-received attire because it allows the guests to choose whether they want black-tie or something else that is less formal. Guests have the option to wear a tuxedo they already own, rent one, or wear something else but still close to it. Instead of a tuxedo, men can wear dark suits in dark colors like black, dark gray or dark navy. While women can wear something as formal as a black-tie, like dresses that reach up to the floor, or even the short cocktail attires.
Black-tie
Being the most formal of all attires, men should wear tuxedos, and women, in dresses that are formal, usually those that reach up to the floor. Beaded purses, extravagant wraps and purses are all used for this occasion. Since this event involves dancing, make sure that the clothes chosen are not constricting.
Closure
The required attire is usually printed in the invitation card. But if it is not noted and you are not sure what kind of attire to choose, you can ask your friends, who are also invited and attending the event, what they will wear. Other than that, you can also base the kind of attire to choose on the time the event will take place. For more information about wedding waistcoats, please visit Wedding Ties & Cufflinks.
